Echoes of Ancient Tang Poems
November 26 - December 15, 2025

In the 2025 season, iSING! Festival will bring its history-making Echoes of Ancient Tang Poems (the “Project”) on a China tour in Guiyang and Chengdu, featuring a cast of singers in all vocal categories. The Project begins on November 26, with an intensive training/rehearsal period in China. Poetry of the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907 A.D.) has been emblematic of the human spirit and cultural refinement. Just like Shakespeare’s oeuvre, Tang poems represent a timeless Zeitgeist. For the first time these 1,300-year-old poems were set to music by young composers from eleven countries. Sixteen iSING! artists from five countries sang these works in Mandarin. In 2023, iSING! collaborated with the Philadelphia Orchestra to present the memorable American premiere of Echoes of Ancient Tang Poems at Lincoln Center and Kimmel Center. In 2024, a world premiere of Spring River Flowers by Moonlight 《春光花月夜》, a new addition of Tang Poem is added to the Echoes of Ancient Tang Poems concert program. Set in music by composer Mason Bates, commissioned by the Philadelphia Orchestra, it was featured in The Philadelphia Orchestra China Tour under the baton of Maestro Marin Alsop at the Beijing's National Centre for the Performing Arts. Other iSING! highlights included the SKP Chengdu iSING! Opera Gala, directed by the acclaimed opera director Hugo De Ana. Founded in 2011 by Asian Performing Arts Council, a non-profit US organization, iSING! is the first-ever vocal arts festival that promotes the cultural exchange of East and West by training artists in both western and Chinese opera repertoire. Since its inception, nearly 400 young singers from over 30 countries have participated in iSING! Festivals, performing in over 50 major concerts in venues including the NCPA, Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall in New York.
