Yuan Gong, Coach
Yuan Gong, tenor and diction coach, graduated from the Foreign Languages Department of Suzhou University with a bachelor of arts in linguistics and literature in 1982, and went for further study in New York State University where he obtained a master of arts degree in linguistics. He was later admitted to the voice department of Manhattan School of Music, and continued his vocal studies with baritone Luigi Marcello and soprano Valeria Ferri in Florence and Napoli, Italy. He has also studied the analysis of western operas with Metropolitan Opera conductor Igo Chichagov, and studied diction coaching of Italian, French, German, Latin and Spanish with the renowned Metropolitan Opera diction coach Nico Castel, and voice with the legendary pedagogue Madame Zhou Xiaoyan.
Over the last twenty years, he has appeared in concerts in Alice Tully Hall in New York’s Lincoln Center, the Merkin Concert Hall, Concert Hall of Columbia University, Concert Hall in Boston, Jersey City Concert Hall, in Florence and Naples in Italy, as well as tours throughout China. Apart from singing, he has also been working as a diction coach and was invited by the Reisopera of Netherland to coach for the opera “Hotel de Pekin”. He is now teaching singing and diction in the School of Continuing Education at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China.
