This winter, iSING! Festival returns to China with a special residency and concert tour in Guiyang and Chengdu, presenting its acclaimed program Echoes of Ancient Tang Poems. The tour runs November 26 through December 15 and brings together a diverse cast of singers across all vocal categories. Sixteen singers from six countries will perform 13 pieces of Tang Poems set to music by composers from 11 nations around the world. In collaboration with acclaimed conductors Yang Yang (Guiyang Symphony Orchestra) and Chen Lin (Chengdu Symphony Orchestra), the Festival continues to showcase its groundbreaking program, Echoes of Ancient Tang Poems.

Ancient Poetry, Global Voices

The Tang Dynasty (618–907 A.D.) produced poetry that continues to embody the human spirit and cultural refinement—often compared to Shakespeare’s timeless works. For the first time in history, these 1,300-year-old masterpieces have been set to music by young composers from eleven countries. Performed in Mandarin by singers from around the world, Echoes of Ancient Tang Poems bridges cultures through symphonic music and poetic tradition.

Since its 2021 world premiere in Suzhou, China, the project has made history on major stages:

  • 2023 – U.S. premiere with The Philadelphia Orchestra at Lincoln Center and the Kimmel Center

  • 2024 – World premiere of Spring River Flowers by Moonlight 《春光花月夜》, composed by Mason Bates, featured in The Philadelphia Orchestra’s China Tour under Marin Alsop at Beijing’s National Centre for the Performing Arts.
